Hester responds that with Conroe, Intel is just catching up to advances AMD has already incorporated into its Opteron processor, the first of either companies' chips to include two processing engines on one piece of silicon.

AMD, much like Intel, is working to increase the number of processors per chip from two to four, and the company says it will introduce new designs for servers and desktop systems that will be released in mid-2007, followed later in the year by a new design for notebooks. Many analysts are also expecting the company to counter Intel's pricing moves with price cuts of its own.

Downplaying doesn't change the fact that the Core 2 uArch is superior though.

Article is wrong. The Conroe Killing K8L is just weeks away.

I know this 'cause a fanboy told me :)

You've picked up on an K8L, so you could say it seems as though AMD is tending to follow more of an evolutionary design path than a revolutionary one, and I think that's a correct view of where we're taking the technology in 2007. We have a good technology base, so it's easy for us to expand it, without having to re-invent the wheel, unlike Intel, which has to try to claim that the NGMA is something new.

We don't need something new, we just need to continue down the path of improving memory bandwidth through new technologies, improving speed, through faster clock rates, larger caches, and, in certain areas that are driven by customers who demand improvement, absolute performance. It's clear that we will improve both the integer and floating-point performance of our cores, independently of improvements in transistor technology, manufacturing technology and so forth.

wow ,,,really? :wink: 9 ,9 ,9 ,9 ,9,nine,buddy! wtf?its not a tech link,do you scour pro amd websites for this stuff.?
we know you love amd,but take some advice ,PLEASE,
innovation is what we are after ,not brand names;
and every one loves it when the underdog triumphs,it gives average people hope.
so dont muddy the water with biased propaganda,and be a fan of innovators,as thats what makes things like pc's and games so enjoyable,its not a brand name,its a process.
AMD intheir own vp's words is going to boost performance 60% in 07 and since quad intels are bieng slated for the q4 of this year ,dont be surprised if amd gets the ball rolling sooner.
you remind me of a liberal polotician,,,do you need help finding better links?
