It usually means your HD is about to go. I've experienced the error a couple of times before on other PC's and eventually the HD bricked. Back-up what you can now.

Do a full scan to recover any errors then do as tinmann says (back it up), CRC's usually mean failing disk hardware or head crashes, and if your lucky you might have anything from a few days to a month before you lose everything.

Basically your external HDD is failing.

Get your data off it and onto a new one ASAP.

Most likely any data stored on the bad sectors will be unrecoverable

    Simple, get a new external disk and copy all the data from the current one onto the new one :)

    CRC errors generally mean failing hardware, probably the external hard drive. Buy a new one.

    The problem is occurring for me when I'm trying to move my data from one external hard drive to another. Cyclic redundancy error. How can I get past this error and back my files up?
