I'm building a new custom computer, and Opterons have caught my eye. 1) They're cheap 2) Very overclockable So, I've actually considered buying one over a Athlon 64 X2. While they aren't dual core, they seem to be capable of reaching high speeds and they have a large cache. What do you think?
ummm it depends on which one your looking at. try the 165 and above series, they are all dualcore.
Dangit, the dual cores start at too high of a price for me. I'd rather get the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ I was planning on getting. But, I have a question. How much more powerful is one or the other when comparing a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor and an AMD Opteron 165, 170, or 175? The Opteron 165 is a little more expensive, I'd like to know the difference/why.
