Hey I have a quick question. If a mobo has a DDR2 standard of 800mhz does that mean I can't go lower? (ie 667) Thanks for your help.

You can ALWAYS force product to run slower than advertised.

The reverse, is often true, but not always.

Yes slower memory on the same format (DDR2) will normally always work on motherboards that support faster types... Of course as is the case with the hardware game there can be acceptations to that but they are normally rare.

There are no such things as DDR2-800 motherboards. Every memory controller currently available is variable speed. So all DDR2-800 capable boards are also DDR2-667 and DDR2-533 capable.

Same goes for AGP 8x graphics cards...no such thing.

Oh i didn't know that. How come they put different standards for them? maybe just as a recomendation? Thanks for info

Lots of companies advertise the highest supported speed, but that has no bearing on the range of supported speeds.

DDR2-800 is a max speed, all boards also support DDR2-667 and DDR2-533. Just like the old AGP argument, there were no 8x cards, 8x supporting cards also supported 4x...and some even supported 2x.
