Howdy to all you experianced DCer’s, if you didnt guess im fairly new
to this DCing buseness, but since i have about 9 weeks of holiday, i
have nothing better to do then learn how to set up a DC. Im sure
you’ll be fairly impressed to know that i succesfuly got a windows
2000 server (never mind how i got a copy of it) running happily on
VMware, i then sucesfully got AD working sort of and then successfuly
got network instalation of windows 2k pro working, had a few problems
conecting the new clint to domain (that was becasue of conflicting
DHCP and DNS servers, but i fixed it) And i have alredy out classed my
old High school networkj which was laphable, after i tought some
fellow students how to use net send the admins (all 2 of them) had to
go around every computer (nearly 800) in the school disabling
messanger service, i worked out how to do that on a network wide basis
from the server in 5 minuets of getting the domain up and running .
Now, i am a bit stumped, as i prid my self of using high quality
software, i would like some one to point me in the direction of
setting up a some thing or otehr so that firefox is installed on all
clints (i guess you use distrabuted FS, but i dont know how ) please
point me towards a beginers guide of DCing or some thing of the like.
EDIT: I would also like to know if it’s posible to use Server 2000 as
a proxy, i know a proxy like squid proxy would be better, but i dont
have a FreeBSD (my unix like OS of choice) VM PC, and dont want to set
one up

Yes Windows 2000 can used as a proxy. You need to install MS ISA
server on it or some other third party proxy/firewall product
Distributing software to ALL CLIENT COMPUTERS through AD - the
highlights:
* Download and install the GPMC
* Create an OU in AD
* Put the computer accounts of the clients in that same OU
* Create a GPO
* Assign the MSI package of firefox to it from a share (with at least
read permissions for the computer accounts). You can use a normal
share of a DFS share. (Computer configuration - software... etc.)
* Link the GPO to the OU
* Reboot the client and before the loginscreen shows you should see
the computer installing the software
