Is this the best you can build now?

Motherboard: Supermicro H8DCE, nForce4 Pro2200,E-ATX
CPUs: 2x AMD Opteron 285, 2.6GHz, 2way Socket 940, 2MB
Ram: 8x Crucial PC3200 DDR-DIMM 2048MB CL3 REG Registered, ECC/REG, 2.5V
Graphic: XFX GeForce 7950GX2 570M 1GB GDDR3 XXX
Harddrive: 8x Western Digital Raptor X 150GB SATA 16MB 10000RPM

Is this the best computer you can build at the moment?
It has 4 cores with 2,6GHz and a holy might of 16Gb ram. The best nVidia card. (The motherboard cannot run SLI...).
And then put all the 150Gbs in RAID0+1, that would give a hell of a boost.
Or am I wrong? Is there any better setup?

conroe and 2 x1900xtx cards
Idiot 2x X1900XTX is NOT better than 2x 7950GX2...
Here are some charts.

I may be blind, but aren't those charts comparing a single X1900XTX to a 7950GX2 with BUIL IN SLI? True if you could get the quad SLI working, it would probably beat 2x X1900XTX, but I'm clueless as to how that would work and I don't think anyone has done it yet. Maybe though...

Here are some charts. The skies the limit, Dreamer. Why don't you have a supercomputer with 20,000 Opterons built, then come back and ask if you can do any better.

lol

n00b, the guy said that the mobo didnt support sli, and he never mentioned sli'ing 2 7950's, stupid n00b

Not sure if you're talking to me, but yeah if you're talking about not having the ability to use SLI then the 7950GX2 is the way to go.... BUT

conroe and 2 x1900xtx cards

Here are some charts.

He does explicitly say in that post that dual X1900XT's are not better than 2x 7950GX2's, and then provides the chart to prove it. All I'm saying is

1: the charts dont illustrate what hes talking about and
2: no one has done quad sli

Okay lets see here now.
Just so you know: You cannot put 2x SLI or Crossfire with that motherboard that I have chosen.
So then that makes one GeForce 7950GX2 faster than one Ati X1900XTX... Because you need 2x X1900XTX in Crossfire to match one 7950GX2. So the 7950GX2 is a lot faster in this case and doesn´t cost more than about $55 extra (in my country)...
So can you buy any CPU that is faster than 2x AMD Opteron 285 2,6GHz, that is atleast half meant to be used as a home-computer (I know Opterons 2xx is meant for servers, but can be used at home without any problems as a normal computer...)

Old post but nonetheless... asking if something is the "best" is completely subjective...what you've got spec'd could be considered overkill for all but the most extreme enthusiasts, especially 8 raptors in RAID 0...

Ummm, yes, the H8DCE is SLI capable...check it out for yourself...and you can run 2-7950's in SLI...

No quad sli availble until after summer

Actually that's not quite true, no quad sli is available retail until that driver comes out but you can buy it from a system builder like falcon nw or dell.

AGAIN you cannot run two 7950's in SLI (this means two physical cards for four cores) RIGHT NOW. They have a driver for it but it HAS NOT been released to the public yet, only to system builders.

You can go onto Falcon-nw website and configure a system with two 7950's which will run in SLI together, you cannot do it yourself yet.

Now, since Falcon uses retail parts, you could get a friend who ordered a computer from there, and get him/her to give you the driver.

It should work, because they use regular old Asus and BFG parts, which anyone can order.

Or check the torrents to see if anyone is seeding the installation file for the Quad-SLI drivers.

Enthusiast companies such as Falcon, OverDricePS and Alienware use the 7900GX2 in their Quad-SLI builds, which cannot be bought in stores. It has a much longer PCB and suffers from minor stability issues, something most have fixed by now.
