I bought an ATI X1900 GT as a temporary card until I can find an EVGA 7900 GT KO, but in itself the x1900 isn't that bad. I wonder if it's actually worth it to switch to an EVGA 7900 GT KO (I can return the x1900).

On thing to keep in mind is that I have an SLI mobo.

X1800 XT's better than a 7900 GT KO?

Also, I only have a 410 W PSU, X1800XT recommends a 450. I'll have to factor that into the $$$$$$$.

Well, I'll probably get railed for this but unless there's a good money savings involved I'd just keep it rather than return it. It's not a great performing card, but it's not too bad of one either and if it works for you I don't see the point in going through all of the hassle of returning it. The Firingsquad Review shows that it does come close to the 7900GT in some games and beats it in others. I would just hang onto it until the DX10 cards become available then sell it on eBay.

SLI on your motherboard doesn't mean much unless you plan to use it so I wouldn't worry abou that either.

The cost difference is not that much regardless of which way you go... x1800xt or 7900gt. They are better cards but if you have to mail in and return it then I don't know that it's worth the hassle if you're only going to have it for a few months... If you can walk into a store and exchange it then by all means do so.

If you go evga you never know, dx10 cards may come out in 3 months (don't really think so) but if they do you can trade up and only pay the difference.

If the X1900GT works with the PSU, then an X1800XT will work, too. I say return the X1900GT, and get a cheap card to hold you over until the DX10 cards come out. Or maybe you could use eVGA's trade-up program to trade that 7900GT for a DX10 card when they come out.

Do you guys think that 256MB is enough memory for a X1800XT? I'd really like to get one but I always figured that more memory is nice on a higher end card. Problem is, as soon as you go from 256 to 512, the price jumps by ~$110 (comparing the Sapphire X1800XT 256MB to the ATI X1800XT 512MB).

Save your $110 and get the 256MB version, which will still beat that X1900GT sh!t.

Returning this card (x1900GT) is not a problem -- the store is right next to where I live. If we forget the DX10 card upgrade factor, which is a better card, X1800XT (512mb) or the 7900 GT KO?

I decided to get a 9700 GT KO because I might want to SLI it later. It is marginally better in all games than X1900 GT EXCEPT Oblivion. It's just horrible in it! Either I'm setting something wrong or it's just not good enough for Oblivion. Oddly X1900 GT seems to get better FPS in it.

You can overclock a simple 7900 GT to a GTX.. with some luck. And have the most powerfull card on earth. So unless ur going to get the X1900XT, get the 7900 GT (they are the only cards worth buying).
