AMD price drops must approach 51% to compete with Intel

AMD will have to man'up for next few financial quartes and furthur reduce its processors price to remain a float. After all, I recall that 'MrsD' mentioned something like an FX-62 (top of the line) for less than $280.00. It seems like her predictions might come true 8O.

Where the hell do you see the FX-62 price at 280?

Some fanboys have been spouting BS about how market conditions will force the FX-62 below $300. I don't see that happening - if you read the TGD analysis, they put the optimal $/P ratio at around $503. If AMD was forced to make those kinds of price cuts, they would lower it [FX-62] to the optimal ratio and no lower - they need the money.
  4. An E6600 outperformed an FX-62 and it only price at $315. How the hell is FX-62 gonna compete with that...

This is a Dooom to AMD... im pretty sure that their marketting are crawling like a crap and over-thinking how would an FX62 @ $799 will compete a C2D E6600 or even C2D E6400 @ below $350..

How did Intel compete when a 965EE was there best proc and it was matched by a 4600 x2?

Or how did AMD compete with K6 compared to pentium?

Theyll find a way. AMD had been in second more of its history than in first. And dont forget until intel releases CSI, the 4+ core server market goes to AMD. However im sure AMD will have a new core/hypertransport by then that can compete better. If not, then maybe they're done.
  10. I think it's funny you "experts" coming in here saying what AMD *must* do to "stay afloat". Jebus H Chribt on a pony: are you for real?

Time for a reality check: AMD are a multibillion dollar concern, they are well funded and profitable. They have their own experts and marketing people, and those people know what to do in order to "play the game" with Intel.

Only one thing is certain: AMD will fight like hell to retain (and increase) their market share, and they will use any and all resources at their disposal in that quest.

Predicting doom for AMD is simply stupid: you can't "get rid of" AMD that quick, with a big punch to the face, no matter how good conroe is. The market is bigger, and more complex than that.

Simply stated, none of you have a fucking clue what you are talking about, so best idea, as Oscar Wilde once said is this: 'Tis better to remain silent, and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Your lagging on us as the new price list has been out. Here it is so check out the X2 5000+ being about $34 cheaper than the E6600. AMD is pitting the X2 5000+ up to the E6600 at a cheaper price.
    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3361
The X2 4600+ against the E6400 on a close to even performance but lower price . The X2 4200+ goes up against the weaker E6300 at about the same price. The FX-62 is going away due to the faster FX-64 due out next month so no price for it will change.

AMD at a cheaper price per performance but does Intel over the long run save enough in power for us to change our systems is the only question im left with. I would say for upgrading the answer is no but for a new system I would buy the E6600.
