As the title says, I need a new computer. My current computer decided to die today. I use my computer mostly for 3D modeling and gaming, so it should be pretty good. I have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor that I can use(they all suck-but that's besides the point).

What I'm thinking of getting: (budget ~$1550 US)

Gigabyte AM2 Mobo:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128011
196.99

Athlon 64 X2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103739
369 (<---- that price should drop in a few days, right?)j

Corsair RAM(2GB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590
198

OCZ PSU(520w): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817711002
134.99

DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827135063
36.99

Hard Drive(250GB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136010
81.99

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811233001
139.99

Video Card(7900GT): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130033
269.99

Windows: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16837102059
89.99

Total: 1517.93 (without shipping)

To all fanboys: I'm going with AMD because, even though the Conroe benchmarks look really promising, Newegg has none in stock.

Suggestions, anyone?

AMD is EOLed all its 1MB cache products like the 4000+ and probably will not cut the price on them. That's ok, cache is not a big deal for AMD like it is for Intel CPUs. Look at the 3800+ which should be around $150 after the fire slashing.

I would really consider another case besides a Gigabyte one. But thats more me, I don't really like the case. Antec P180 is much better i Think.

For AM2 do not buy CAS5 DDR2. Get CAS4 for much better speed. AM2 lives or dies on good RAM with low timings, and 5 is just too high.

Wait couple of weeks then get a Conroe.

Done.

... or I could not, because then I will not have a working computer for a few weeks.

@shadowduck: Thanks for the info. :) I'll change that later.

conroe isnt even out yet, thats why there arent any in stock. serriously, dont think that we are all fanboys or something. conroe is FAR superior to anything AMD, and EXTREMELY cost effective. not fanboy, just facts

If you cant wait for conroe then what you have is fine, you may want to consider a slightly larger hard drive though. (but hey thats coming from a guy with 160gigs)
