With all of Conroe's new excitement, and the new possible builds, I was curious to hear what some of your builds are going to be with the Conroe. I keep reading "Wait, get Conroe". That's good, but I'm curious what a good MoBo / Ram / Video card would go well with them?

Hoping to hear some of your builds that you are going to make when it becomes available

 High end/enthusiast mobo are very expensive especially the ones from Intel. There are very good for overclocking. But if you're on the budget side then just wait a bit longer for like a month or so after Core 2 launch and you'll see more Core 2 mobos out there. Giving you more choices on performance and price range.

eVGA 7900GT Reload

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16835118125
Aftermarket GPU Cooler

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127004
ABIT AB9 Pro

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145590
Corsair XMS DDR2 800 5Cas

http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811147040
Case

http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817182030
550W PSU

For the case I plan on dremeling the three slashes on the front of the case to a larger scale on the side. Then the blue LEDs form my coolers will give it the same effect as the front. Rosewill cases seem to be rising in quality and along with the combo deal with the power supply, makes it all the better.

Should be around $1100 w/ rebates and such.

Wow, great responses. I really apprecaite the feedback.

I'm really planning on building a new system when the Conroe's are available, and this helps me decide what parts to build with. My budget is somewhere in the range of $1300, and I arleady ahve monitors / mouse / keyboard / speakers, so I'm really lookin to put some money into the hardware.

Chuck, how many ladies do you seriously think will see that signature in this forum?

None. Do you know any girls that give a damn about computers? He could probably make a better living as a porn actor. Then I guarantee that a lot of chicks (and dudes) will see him in action.

I don't overclock, I don't play a lot of games, I just like a responsive, reliable system.

I will likly buy...

A Conroe E6400, maybe a 6600 if I have a few extra dollars when I buy

Likely an Intel 975 motherboard, or the ASUS p5W DH, used a zillion motherboards from each firm over the years, both have done me well. - solid, stable, rarely any grief.

Likley 2 gigs of ram - DDR2-667 works just fine, the extra money for DDR2-800 at low latency just doesn't buy me enough speed to be worth it.

I have a 74 gig raptor I will recycle from the existing rig, and likely toss in a 300+/- gig or so Seagate or WD hard drive for extra storage.

A generic DVD burner for 35 bucks or so, still want a floppy so add $11

I don't have a TV, but I do have TWO Dell FP2405 24 inch LCDS, so I'll buy a midrange+ ATI "All in wonder" card to get TV/VCR functionality - an X1800 XL looks about right as it has twin DVI outputs for the Dells. - I'll buy a mid pack audigy sound card to drive my AWESOME (they truly are amazing) Klipsch 5.1 ultra speakers.

Get a new case, probably an Antec with a Power supply included - A nice quiet Sonata for $105 or so looks about right. I don'r do SLI/Crossfire, don't have a killer GPU, and Conroe sips power, so something in the 400 watt PSU range is plenty...

Thats about it...

New stuff to buy..

Conroe $250-350 (depends on model)
Motherboard $250
Ram $200
DVD + Floppy $50
HD $ 100
Case $110
Sound card $ 100
Vid Card $300

About a $1300 +/- and I am done, and happy for two more years :)
