hey everyone,

I was just wondering (because I'm building a new rig pretty soon), if it's worth the extra money to upgrade to AM2 (such as an X2 4000+) or just to stick to socket 939 for now. Some questions I had were if AM2 had any significant statistical advantages over 939, and if 939 would be vista-capable?

thanks,

there is an advantage maybe to upgrading your 939 to a faster CPU...

If replacing mobo, you need DDR2, then I would advise going with a Conroe E6400, ($250), Conroe mobo ($100), 2GB DDR2 ($150)... that is $500 for a bare bones kick ass rig that can outperform a FX-60 with ease...

not worth the extra money, if you wants upgrade go with Duo 2 Core lower end since you dont know when am3 will come out and Duo 2 Core out perform amd x2 in eveyway possible

I have been doing a ton of homework on this same subject, I have learned that there are no major performance gains over some of the 939 setups, from what I have been reading in maximum pc, the real good stuff comes out in 2007 ( pci-express 3, ddr3, the 65nm cpu's from amd and some other stuff, and with dual core 939's out now why not wait till then (2007)....
