need some info on PSU's... and reccomendations

my system will be running and X1800XT and an E6600, what sort of wattage should suffice for a system like that...

Can anyone reccomend any brands that are known to be good? Im clueless about PSU's.

ATI recommend a minimum 450w PSU for the X1800/1900 series

I've just upgraded my high-efficiency Antec 430w NeoHE PSU for the 550w version of the same.

By the looks of things, unlike the CPU world graphics cards are going to get even more power hungry in the future.

For a single GPU system, a good 450w PSU would do you fine, but in the interests of futureproofing I'd recommend getting something a bit higher especially if you want to overclock.

Personal recommendation, high efficiency, good reliability, and low noise:

Antec NeoHE 550w Modular PSU

now on the gpu part about power consumption
nvidia is using less power in their 79 and 76 series cards
than before. also less transistors which of course means less power

but i dont know about when dx10 comes out.

Whatever you decide, it would be prudent to have one with more than one 12v rail and the amperage should be no less than 16amps per. Even if you get a quad rail PSU - the higher the amperage, the better.
