Is there a way to "benchmark" my sound device? I'm having stuttering in games and I think it might be due to my onboard sound. Can anyone recommend a cheap card that might help fix this? The stuttering will only occur at certain parts of the game, thats why i think its the sound.

In Oblivion for instance, whenever I am attacked by a wolf and he starts to bark my FPS go to shit...

I don't know of a program that will allow you to benchmark your soundcard, but I do know a soundcard that will help your benchmarks.

Have you tried turning down the sound quality in your games? That might help you.

It can happen. Take my case I upgraded my older system to XP with little knowlege that my Accoustic edge was no longer supported except for buggy user created drives. Makes playing games past 2002 near immpossible. My only other option was to go with onboard sound that only supports two speakers.
