Ive got plenty of artic silver 3 left over from years back. Is it worth buying artic silver 5 or another type of thermal compound or just use the 3?

I also need somthing to clean my cpu, Akasa tim clean or isopropanol?

Hey funky,
i have used AC3 for ages till it ran out too, i now use AC5 i noticed a 1-3 deg c drop in temp. but that could be just be getting better at putting the right amount on! (Just enough to create a seal between 2 metal parts!):) which is probably more important than the compound itself...

AC3 - to - AC5 i don't think you will notice any difference...

ohh and isoclean is as good as anything leaves no residue...

i dont see any difference in thermal paste, i have had my cpu
in and out so much when i first built my comp <bad mobo>
that i just use radioshack paste. and i had my amd 3700 to 2630mhz
with no difference in temps 32c idle and 40 load.

it is at stock speeds now and still same temps.

You may aswell finish off the AS3. It's still very good thermal paste. Isopropyl alcohol is good enough too, and cheap as sin.
