Need advice...should I go mid-range or budget

I will be building a new machine soon and am thinking about the x1800xt but with Vista and DX10 coming out I wanted advice on my choice. I'm sure it will be a while before games are out to take full advantage of Vista and DX10 so I have time to wait for a DX10 GPU. Since I know I will be upgrading some time next year, should I still get the x1800xt or get a sub-$200 GPU to hold me over? I'm not partial to ATI so feel free to reccomend an nvidia card.

  1. On Newegg you can get a 7600GT for about $130 after rebates. This should hold you over quite well.

Whatever you're getting, DX10 or not, in a few years, it will be outdated. So it basically depends how much performance you need until the next upgrade.
  3. I'm thinking it'll be at least a year before you really need a DX10 card. 7600GT is fine, but if you can spend more, than a X1800XT is also fine. Both cards should last a year.
