DNS error when using nslookup

After installing win2k Advanced Server in our organization, I create Active
Directory with the name "orgname.local" (IP-Address=192.168.2.11) where as
"orgname.org" is our internet address (we use ISP service for our internet).
During installation of AD, I let the installation wizard to install a Active
Directory integrated DNS server (Name=orgname.local). To configure the
workstations I assayned static IP-Address, Router address 192.168.2.1 and DNS
adress 198.168.2.11 which is the Domain server. My question is that, when I
run nslookup to check the DNS, I got the following error message:"C:\>nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.2.11: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.2.11"

Is there something that I have to understand? I need help. My primary goal
is to install Exchange 2000 Server on this server(192.168.2.11).

For your information we have only one server as Domain Controller and DNS
server. We have also 15 workstations.

Thanks for your reply.

Look in the DNS server and you will probably see that there
is no reverse zone, like 2.168.192.in-addr.arpa. If you
create one, and add a PTR entry for 11, the problem should
go away.

nslookup is saying "you have given me the IP address of a
name server at 192.168.2.11. Because there is no reverse
zone I can't find the name that corresponds with this address".

Sorry, it's a long time since I looked at DNS, so I'm not
sure if the reverse zone is 2.168.192.in-addr.arpa or
168.192.in-addr.arpa (in which case the PTR record should be
11.2).

Cheers,

Cliff

I did it as you told me but still I have the same error message, when I run
nslookup. Do I need to restart the system and the workstations?

It would most likely be the former, not the later (
2.168.192.in-addr.arpa ).....making an educated guess! Assuming that the
subnet is 255.255.255.0

No, sorry, that should have worked. Can you describe in
detail what you did?

Cheers,

Cliff
