E6600 slower then laptop PM 1.73

Can some help me.
My system;
-MSI P965 NEO
-E6600
-ATI 1950 512meg
-2gig 667mhz
-80gig SATA2
-5.1 sound blaster live

Mums laptop;
-LG LW65 express
-Pentium M 1.73
-512meg
-onboard video

When i do simple operations such as dvd ripping or copying files my computer lags big time. my mum laptops kicks the crap out of my system with dvd copying and ect. and when my computer is under some load the audio plays it all scratchy and unreconisable.
I'm just really pissed that ive spent all this money to have a system slower than a laptop that cost the price of 3 compontents.
