Heya all,

Just encountered a error message on boot stating : "USB Over Current Status Detected, Computer will shut down in 15 seconds".

I've narrowed it down to the usb connectors on the front of the case, which have been working fine for 4 months however now when connected to the main board the error appears, when they are removed everything -appears- to be fine *touch wood*. Has anyone seen this error before?

There's a short circuit, perhaps in the cables that connect the front USB ports to the mobo: check if the cables were damaged by case metal sharps.
If you can find were they are damaged maybe you can repair with some tape, but I suggest you replace the cables with new ones.

Hi. I also have this problem but on a P5PE-VM. Pc has worked fine for past 10 months. The last thing i done before this happened was plugging my mobile phone cable to one of the front ports (i've done this many times before with no problems) & suddenly got this 'USB device is currently drawing too much power' message pop up. i disabled them in windows & all was fine until i restarted my pc. Now i was getting 'usb over current status-system will shut down in 15 secs message during post. i unplugged the front usb ports from the mb & booted up fine after that. Since shutting down though i got the message again so reset the cmos, managed to get into bios & get it running again. i updated my bios from asus site while i had it up & running, thinking this might solve it but it didnt. I dont know what else to try. I havent got a clue about pcs & would be greatful of any suggestions plz. I've looked up so many posts regarding this problem & none have been helpful yet.

I simply disabled the "Halt on all errors" in the boot section of the bios setup.

Hi, Just building a new computer - never built one before. Using Asus M2N68-AM mobo. Installed everything, fired up the system and got the same error message regarding USB device...rebooting in 15 secs. Read heaps of forums...remove battery, change jumpers etc, etc.
Tried the above suggestion regarding loosening off screws on mobo and it fixed the problem. Just wanted to say thanks

Hello! I've seen this error indeed and wasted some hours of my life and a returned motherboard for not knowing whats wrong! From what i've seen in other posts there could be numerous causes. In my case (ASUS P5KPL-CM) , I realized I had an extra standoff on the pc-case (i've forgotten it there from my previous setup) which touched the USB circuits underneath the motherboard and caused a short-circuit. I removed this extra standoff and now everything runs smoothly! :bounce:

p.s. many thanks to the guy who posted the solution to my problem in another forum :hello:

hi , i have kinda the same problem only my error message reads :

CMOS checksum bad
USB Device over current status detected
system shut down in 15 sec

now i have tried all i took the mobo out of the case and with only 1 stick ram , cpu , keyboard i still get the message so it cant be that my mobo is touching the case

and about the CMOS error i bought a new battery but still get the massage , i even took out the usb jumpers but nothing works for me pls pls help i really need it

i can't get in the bios because the pc shuts down after 15 secs. and i dont have the option to "press DEL or F12 " to setup

thx

Hey all,

I just had the same problem...

Turns out i had the USB connection from the front panel in the wrong way...
Such a simple thing to do, and throws exactly the same error...

So i would suggest you check any USB front panel connections to the motherboard...

i had same problem, it was the pwr sw, reset, and speaker wires were placed wrong in the mobo, theyre the small cords that are colored and mine are 1 blue and white, 2 orange and white, and 3 red and white. should be under ur system panel connector section of ur mobo instruction manual.

Yes!

I have it now. I did a bios upgrade on my PC, and when it booted back up, I got the same message. Driving me crazy.

My next step is to try to discdonnect the front USB connectors.

I am happy you were able to solve the problem, I hope I can do the same.

Asus is telling me to RMA the mobo, but who knows if that will fix it?

What a pain!

Thanks
