The Inq has news that the X2 3600+ is now samplign to OEMs and will be ready in volume for the back to school rush.

I figured they woudl rush to get these out to keep the low end competitive. These with an ATi or nVidia chipset will make a killer entry level system.

I guess the Inq has earned the right to get linked so,

Linkage!

Will wait to see what the prices are. The retail shoppers usually care about one thing: price! If it's cheap and comes in one box, they'll buy it. I'm thinking Wal-Mart, etc. These people like big numbers and low prices.

Sempron is the retail king?

pretty much. Have you been to Best buy or Circuit City lately? They are the majority of systems being sold. Or at least being displayed but then mahcines that dont' sell won't stay displayed.

They say this chip will be $147, but that's where the X2 3800+ is right now. I'd guess it will come in at about $125 retail, $100-110 OEM.

Edutainment LOLZ!

Places that buy in bulk; Schools, Libraries, Large Corporations.

What they are looking for; Cheap, works.

They are obviously gonna buy alot, but doesn't mean that is what consumers are buying. Anyone who buys a PC from Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. are overpaying for cheap components. I hope this forum isn't full of those type of poeple. Sure units sold is good, but not for anyone on this forum.

My father-in-law is no technophile by any means. He bought a crap eMachine from Wal-Mart cuz it was cheap. You want to know who uses the thing most? His 5-year-old granddaughter, playing crap like Clifford and who knows what else she can find online, like disney and nickjr.

If it really is a 35W part at that price, then it makes the X2 3800 EESFF 35W chip a bit pointless. The guys over at SilentPCReview will be in need of a nappy change if this pans out. :D It could be OEM only though :(

Budget retail computers at wal-mart.

Basically good enough for office apps, web-surfing, and children's edutainment.

They can't write "It can do even for games" because they are supposed to do iit on better chips. Clock for clock, a sempron does not usually go below 5% of an Athlon64; can you say the same about CeleronDs and P4s?! 8O
And keep in mind that office, web surfing and children's PCs can be made even with a PIII.
