I noticed that this topic pops up on google when searching for info about this monitor. So I thought I'd post some first impressions for people looking for more information than what is out there.
So here are my first impression of the Westinghouse 22" LCD monitor.
I'm happy with it for the most part. I'll have a better feel on the PC side of the monitior once I pair it with the PC I'm building. Right now it's running on a system cominging up on six years and can't play anying past 3 years. What I can play though looks pretty. I need to play with the settings and do a little learning. Native settings hurt my eyes after a while, have it running at 12080x1024 with extra large font now. Looks good to me.
I got this monitor because I wanted a dual TV/PC monitor for gaming. The X-Box runs very well with this monitor at factory settings haven't really messed with settings on it since it did such a good job at first try. X-Men Legend2 FMV looked jaw droping. Take into mind this from someone who has little experience with HD picture outside of the PC and friends TVs. Kind of pissed that I can't find the HD pack to get digital sound and Pic. I have the S-Vid version so It's a choice between the two. I use the X-box as my DVD player. I can get both with the PS2 but the darker picture sucks. This monitor didn't play nice with the PS2 without some tweaking of the settings. After turning color temps off and some other vid settings I got good results, but that darking effect is really a pain with darker scenes, games look good. I'm not sure if the monitor is at fault, if it's the cheap madcatz cable, or the fact that the system I have one of the first ones from launch. Might be better if I got some monster cables.
With my cable box it's a bit fuzzy, I expected that since it's RCA. Might be better once I go HD. Haven't tried the GC yet. Some of the features are cool . Zoom looked good on the X-box. Haven't tried it with anything else. There is also a PIP feature when in PC mode. haven't tried it but might come in handy come football season.
The only drawback I found were the controls and navigation which can be confusing and cause some hand cramping. They are located on the right side with six buttons. From bottom to top button 1 is power, 2 vid switcher/menu access, 3 volume up/menue select/setting increase, 4 volume down/setting decrease, 5-6 menue/setting up/down. Sounds confusing right? The first set is easy enough power/switch/volume. Where it gets tricky is dealing with the menue. To start you have to hold button 2 down until the menue comes up. This can be touchy if you don't hold it down long enough, causing you to cycle through modes. Once done you use the up down keys to get to which setting you want press button 3 to select. Buttons 3/4 to change. The problem I have is orintation I can't see the buttons and I'm going by feel. Takes some getting used to. The worst thing is if you leave the menue hanging too long it shuts off. So while you're trying to make sure you have the right button it shuts off, and have to start the whole thing over. On the bright side it does save settings for each mode minus color temps.
So there are my first impressions for people looking for info on this monitor. I'd write a full on review but I don't feel qualified , plus I need to see how it is with the new PC. So far though I'm pretty happy with it. Does what I want in a multimedia device.
