I have a Lexmark Z55 which I bought in Aug. 2002. The printer was Mfg. in
April 2002. I have only printed 2 or 3 sheets per week since I have had
the printer. Yesterday I got a printer problem message and the flashing
lights indicated that I have a "Cartridge short" which is in the black
cartridge. The black Cart. is the original that came with the printer and
I have refilled it several times.

I got three years use out of the Cart. so I am going to get a new one but I
am curious: Did the electronics in the Cart. go out due to age & use or is
there some sort of chip or timer in it that made it go out. It seems
strange that the Cart. went out so close to exactly four years after the
printer was Mfg.

Thanks
Bob

You have done very well for the cart to last so long, I have found you can
refill Lexmark carts around six to eight times then they give up. There is
nothing on the printed circuit that would cause your problem, after all
Lexmark only expect their cart to last once.

I got a new black cartridge and it solved the problem. I think I got my
money's worth out of the old one.

Bob
