3800+ vs intel 672 3.8ghz processor

The X2 3800+ would be better all around.

A64 3800+ or A64 X2 3800+? The X2 will be slower in single threaded single applications and faster in multitasking. Since I'm constantly multitasking, I'd prefer the X2.

As for a comparison of single cores, well, the P4 has a slight advantage in multitasking and multi-threaded applications due to HyperThreading, while the single-core 3800+ will be a little quicker in single-threaded single apps.

It gets complicated, but I gave up on the P4 for another reason: My air conditioner can't keep pace with it.

Going with the low-power version of the X2 3800+ may help keep the system cool too - there isn't too much point for the 65W version, as the 'original' X2 3800+ is far from using its 95W envelope.
