Ok I just ordered the connect3D 3056 Radeon X1900XT GPU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814142063

and the ZALMAN VF900 Heatsink/fan

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16835118001

I'm kinda afraid of removing the stock heatsink on a $389 card ( $289 after the rebate)

I know putting on the new heatsink wont be a problem but I want to know is it difficult to remove the heat sink?

Is it a good idea to use a razor blade to scrape the gease off the chip?

Will it damage my card?

thank you all for your input.

Yeah, I saw that video. I think installing will be very easy, just the removing seems kinda hard hehe.

put the card in computer first and play some games take it back out(good test to see if DOA because you are instantly voiding warranty), the heat will help if there is any sticky stuff helping the HSF to stay on. I never disassembled a ATi card before but It can be to hard. My 7800GT was easy.

static kills chips, ground yourself

I'm going to get myself a nice anti-static mat.

Yeah, I'm going to play some games and see how the card is running.

I didn't get the card yet but from the picture it seems that I need to take the cover off from the fan then I can take the heatsink.

You just remove the 4 screws from the back and the whole heatsink and fan assambly come off. If it dosn't just come off rotate it(ie clockwise then counterclockwise) a few degrees each way for the past to loosten up. Once it's off clean the chip with some denatured alcohol or even a dry paper towel, but dont scrape it with anything hard because you could damage the chip.
