Comparing different Radeon cards

Hello.

I am thinking of getting a game that requires Radeon 8500, and recommends Radeon 9000. I have a Radeon X800GT.

I usually ignore hardware unless I am looking to upgrade, so I have never heard of the 8500 or 9000 cards. Is my X800GT better or worse than those cards?

Is there a list somewhere that shows a hierarchy of ATI cards, so I don't have to bug people on forums in future?

the cards which are without an "x" came earlier than the "x" ones like lets say a radeon 7500 is older than the radeon x700 series ...hope it helped a bit

"X" could be considered to be the equivalent of "10." The X-series cards are based on the R4xx line, while the Radeon 8500 and 9000 mentioned are off of the R200 line; they're three years earlier, (from 2001) so you needn't worry a single bit; your card will blast through it with ease.

see kids. "X" isnt just cooler than all the other 25 letters in the alphabet. its also used as a number.

anyway... most graphics manufacturers.. er ati and nvidia number their cards according to performance. The higher the number, the higher the performance. BUT the first number is alwaysa the series geforce fx_5_600
geforce_6_800 geforce_7_900. Same thing with ati. the numbers coming after always show what to expect for performance with that series. So if you see an ati card with a 1900 number it means it is part of the 1000 series and 900 is the model. The higher that model number the better the performance in that series.
