My Barton 2600+ is running at 2.3 and its idle temp is about 38*C and the load temp is 46. My cpu cooler is a volcano 7+ and im using AS5. Why is the idle so high an not much lower than the full load. Thanks

are you using some kind of fan speed control? what's your room temperature?

it is, because athlon xps dont use 12v rail. I guess the only component tha uses it is the cd-rom.

38 - 46 is very good and I wouldn't worry about it in the least.
oh yeah, i forgot that hahahaah
i had an thoroughbred B 1800+ at stock and it ran at ~47C, so i guess 46C at load for a 2.3ghz is pretty good

but as he asked, i was trying to help

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Im not sure what my room temp but i would assume its about 25*C give or take. I opened up speedfan and i was like WTF when i saw 6v on the 12v rail so thanks for putting my fears aside there.

If you wanted too, you could try a little OC'ing, because with a temp of 47, you have lots of headroom.

I already am overclocked. The 2600+ Barton core runs at 1.917 stock and I have it at 2.3 but ive hit the wall there.

oh, just because your system is working like that, it doesnt eliminate the need for further tests and probably a new power supply
