My file explorer does not work for other than word, excel, notes, etc.
I'm trying to figure out how to install WinCE/PocketPC apps on my iPaq
h1935 but dunno how...
I tried almost everything from copying the setup file(s) to iPaq
directrly using ActiveSync File Explorer on Windows, copying file using
card reader to my SDFlash but I can't seem to install.
How would you install an apps to the iPaq h1935? How can I find a file
explorer that works for all files?
Thanks

1. There are two possible ways (at least) to install programs onto pocketpc
without activesync. The first is for a program that requires no real
installation - you simply copy the program over to a created directory of
choice and execute it on the ppc, either through the explorer or through a
shortcut created with a decent explorer. The second is of program type that
requires installation, and 99% of the time this will be in a compressed cab
file. The installation consists of moving the cab file to the ppc and
executing there (clicking on cab file), which installs the program and
cleans up the cab file. Mechanically this is the similar process to using
active sync, you are just moving the cab manually. To find the cab file on
the host pc when only a pc setup is given simply go through setup on the pc
without syncing and (typically) look through the program files\microsoft
active sync\program x Folders setup created, there is often the desired cab
gile in this directory. One thing to note - if you install manually, next
time you sync answer no about installing again.
2. If you want to buy a nice explorer, look at resco explorer from www.
handango.com. If you want a free explorer, check out Total Commander, from
www.pocketpcfreewares.com, among others.
Good Luck!

Thank you for your kind advices.
I took your advice and downloaded PPCBrowser.exe and tried to install it
on my Windows 2003 Server, but the pop up windows complained:
"Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile
device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again."
This is the same errors I've been getting to install anything to my
PocketPC iPaq h1935 from my Windows server 2003.
All I want now is to get a descent file explorer so at least I can
navigate. Did I do something wrong that I'm not aware of?
So strange and very frustrating.

Click on OK to terminate the application."

Well, I really did not suggest PPCBrowser, but that is neither here nor
there..
Try This:
1. Use this link to get TotalCommander:
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocket.exe
2. Rename the file to tcmdpocket.zip
3. Unzip it.
4. Copy the arm cab file to your pocket pc, I think that is the correct one
for your device.
5. Execute the cab file on your pocket pc from your pocket pc. It should
install.
BTW, you will find that a lot of setup EXEs are really zip files, which is
handy for renaming and cab extraction purposes if it comes to it. Still
need to figure out why you cannot install on Server (permissions, maybe?)
but that should get you going in the short time.
Good Luck.

Thank you, thank you, thank you .... You are an angel. I've been trying
to figure out how to install apps for this past couple of weeks and I
just did it.
Now that I can install apps on my iPaq default system directory, how do
I direct any future installation to my SD storage card instead of the
flash memory? I think I'll be running out of space soon.
Thanks xTenn

Hi Sarah
As an owner of a simular device (iPaq 1940) i might be able to help you out
You can find 2 very good file explorers on http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com
(be sure to click on the flag for your language
), i'd recommend either
Total Commander, or GSFind+.
You should be able to install these 2 without any problem when you connected
with activesync, you should note, however, that the iPaq 1935 is an ARM
based machine, so if you start downloading apps, be sure that they are for
the ARM proccessor family.
Cheers

Hi Sarah
As an owner of a simular device (iPaq 1940) i might be able to help you out
You can find 2 very good file explorers on http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com
(be sure to click on the flag for your language
), i'd recommend eitherTotal Commander, or GSFind+.
You should be able to install these 2 without any problem when you connected
with activesync, you should note, however, that the iPaq 1935 is an ARM
based machine, so if you start downloading apps, be sure that they are for
the ARM proccessor family.
Cheers

Make sure the apps you try to install is compatible with the operating
system and processor type of your device.

Are you using Symantec Corporate AntiVirus version 8.0? If yes, you need to
update it.

Cool - I like questions.
1. To direct a cab install directly on the PocketPC, the easiest thing to do
is to grab a copy of cabinstl. you can find it here, along with some
details to see if matches what you have in mind (and it is free!):
http://www.webattack.com/get/pocketpc/cabinst.html
2. Unfortunately, the pocket PC is quite married to having a My Documents
folder on the device itself. By default any syncing without a 3rd party app
will go to this directory, not the SD card, regardless of a My Documents
folder on the SD card or not (there are 3rd party apps that fix this).
Newer apps appear to moving away from the requirement of the My Documents
folder to operate, but some are still holding out. Moving apps to the
SDcard really depends on the program, but I have had quite a few that work
quite well there. Of course, you could keep the data itself on the card,
with the program residing on the device.
Good Luck
