Yeah this is my first build...kinda nervous and I just want to make sure I've got everything right and it all checks out..if there's any mistakes please do correct them...I'm pretty much set on this, so if there's any alterations, I'd like them to be small...
RAIDMAX Sagitta ATX-921WBP

MOBO: Intel D975XBX aka "Bad Axe"

CPU: Intel Pentium D 940 Presler

GPU: Sapphire Radeon X1800XT

OCZ Gold Series 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10K RPM...for my gaming needs

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM...mainly for movies/music

PSU: Antec TRUEPOWERII 550W

Acer AL1916W Black 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor

I don't need the best of the best right now, I just want to be able to run all my games on high (BF2, CS:Source, F.E.A.R.). I think the intel d940 and the X1800XT should do the job for now, and I'd be able to update to a conroe and a newer GPU in the future...I'd appreciate any feedback..

if you were going to spend alot on the badaxe why not just stick a conroe in there now?

Good point, a low end core 2 would be about as expensive as the pentium d 940, but would run considerably faster. The only problem would be waiting on one. Tigerdirect may still have some of the E6300's. At most you should only have to wait a week.

But that's just a suggestion...

I don't think you're allowed to have a Conroe and then get annoyed when people still talk about them. Most of us don't work at Newegg.

Just sayin'...

Yeah I changed my mind and I decided to go with the conroe since the e6300 is almost as much as the dual core d940...the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 is looking real nice..I'm going to wait till newegg has the mobo in stock and then hopefully I'll be able to find an e6400/e6600 somewhere in stock :? ...

How old are you?

-get a job, and then, get a conroe with the cash.

I fail to find how this post is worthwhile. Age is nothing. How does employment status even matter? Why would he post a build and not have the money for it?

I can't believe I forgot to mention: Switch to Core 2 Duo. I forgot that they should be released within the day's end or sooner.

Welcome!

Well, it's apparently not just a paper launch. Some people in other threads actually got one. I'm currently backordered - hopefully they'll have them tomorrow (yeah, right).

As for boards, Intel has no control over who manufactures what (besides themselves). They don't have a licence to manufacture nF5 boards, and since nF5 boards have been out for a while (in AM2 socket boards) it's clearly the manufacturers who are to blame. Maybe they didn't think that Conroe would catch on?
