Planetary Conquest

For any of you who like to play turn-based strategy games (ala Risk, Axis&Allies, etc) check out <A HREF="http://www.planetaryconquest.com/" target="_new">http://www.planetaryconquest.com/</A> it's an online game in late-beta stage so is currently free. The client is a Java applet that runs in your browser window and includes proxy support (I play from work during lunch).

I'm currently the top ranked player on the server and am looking to drum up a bit more competition. (How's that for an ego-centric challenge? )

Well it's a little Java applet with a rudimentary map with some numbers here and there. It's not particularly intuitive as to how the game starts and what you should be doing. It's essentially a very basic copy of Risk.

Most importantly it made me think I should be playing Battlefield2 or Eve instead of wasting my time with it.

There have been a lot of improvements. Its worth checking out again. Just remember, this is a strategy game, not a shootem-up. Its RISK on steroids. Worth another looksee.
