That's what I hate about it too, but I'm surprised someone loved it, I thought it was too bland and medicre at best not including the forums banner, but since they forgoed that I rated it a hate it
the poll has been up for less than ten minutes, give it some time, without the banner, it will take some time for people to find it. And I never understood the point of 1337, but you can change the site, if I did it, it would probably be spammed with tacos and such
That's debateable, but back to the front page problem, if we can get a considerable amount of votes (100 at least), then we can send this in as further evidense of why we should change it, but according to someone, this all maybe because of scentia causing a forums war and people joining for one day just to mock us and then leaving, just spamming up the forums
When I get the Forums scrolling banner back, I will be a LOT happier with the new site....
However, where did all of the thumbnail pictures go? Put them back!
The ticker was the ONLY reason I'd check in a few times per day, I liked seeing what people were talking about. Somtimes it would inspire me to comment. There's no way I'm going to go wading through the forums looking for topics...no time in my day. If anything they should have expanded and improved the scrolling feature.
The site is more boring now, a little too much blue. Things are too spread out and not logically placed. My eye wonders where to land...no flow.
I actually preferred the design two versions ago. The site basically has too many things I never use on it. I only care about the latest tech news, the latest form posts and what the last featured article (or the last few) were in case I miss a day. Honestly I've never clicked on anything else on the entire site. And I visit multiple times a day - every day.
...but I'll get used to it I guess. Not sure, I really liked the latest form posts....now what??
well, then why don't we find a new forum to go to, because it's not likely any of us will ever get the time to run a forum unless it's their form of income, but the thing is that I like toms because here you can learn a lot of things and most of the people are respectable
Guess they be bringing the rolling new posts back:

I hear the feedback.
1. The forums scroll bar or variation thereof will find its way back on to the front page.
WOOT!

3. The reason why we changed the old design was because so many people complained. So, we added more navigation, simplified the article layouts, improved the search etc. etc. etc. But, these are days of whine and hoses so, I guess we had it coming.

4. We are listening. What more can I say...
looks like me and apt managed to do some work, anyways the dude said that the scroll will find it's way back, and that the new layout is easier to maneuver around (which it might be, we haven't actually given it a try yet), but the thing I missed was all the pictures and such, they made the place look like somewhere fun, not some corporate money maker
Agreed, links to the VGA charts and stuff on the front page are very useful. I often tell people, when I'm asked about gfx cards, 'just go to THG and click on the VGA charts link'.
I do have to admit though, the page loads faster without all of the graphics. It just doesn't look as good. Now there is so much text and its hard to know where everything is. I guess I'll get used to it.
Its all of those verbose postings. Or those threads that never seem to end. Actually, I'm blaming that 'what's with all the stupid quotes?' thread, that one nearly crashes my machine when I try to load it.

That's because some ass'es keep hacking some of the threads
I cant even figure out how to get around the new site, i mean, the forums link is still easy to find, so i can still get to the one part of this site that still has some sence, but until the main site is back to the way it was i think ill be hanging out at Xtremesystems more often.
I do feel kinda sorry for the person who designed the new layout though, i bet he was thinking "this new layout is going to completly revolutionize the site, there will be hoars of new traffic, THG will grow even larger then even before!" And this is the general forum response "The new site looks like crap, they've killed the forums, THG is going to die as well"
I want the scrolling forums listing back. BTW, the new front page blows. Too boring, bland, did I say boring. The old page had its issues but kinda liked the hodgepodge look.
I can try to get use to it but I don't feel like it. Tomshardware.com deleted, new bookmark, Tomshardware.co.uk added. Even the UK site was changed up a little but for the better.
All the new people that come to Tomshardware.com are probably not going to take time to get used to it and just bypass it for some other tech site.
I don't like it.
I'm not interested to learn how to navigate the new front page.
I'm tired. I don't like change.
What I can't figure out is why you have to make reply to a poster.
I don't want to make a reply to a specific poster.
THG if you want to make a positive change how about making an option to make a post in a thread instead of having to make a reply to a specific poster of a thread.
I have lost respect for THG. For the past several months I haven't bothered to make posts in the forum. I only visit the site for headline computer news links.
I'm disappointed. The turning point for me happened with the tenth anniversary swag contest was only made available to members who live in the US.

Yeah, you have over 10,000 posts and ive never seen you before, and i pretty much live here.
At least the forum ticker is up now. The page just looks so boring, no color, no images. Way too much text. I guess I don't really spend that much time looking at the front page anyways, so as long as I can find the articles, news clips, and forum ticker, I'm ok.
As for not being able to reply to a topic, just reply to the OP, that's what I assumed everybody else did. You are basically responding to their original post, which is the thread.
And I am suprised that somebody could have 10000 posts and me not remember them. I have been reading the forum 5 days a week for probably a year and a half now and I don't remember you. Although, I do have a terrible memory for things like that so I guess if you haven't posted in a while...
I find it very annoying that the main links at the top mix in reviews and news. I much prefer keeping reviews, news, and "briefly noted" clearly separate so that people know what they are getting.
well i liked the self scrolling news and the forum scroll. what i don't like is having to scroll a half a page just to see whats new. kisd (keep it simple dummies)

I hate to complain, as I am sure a lot of work went into it. And I love TomsHardware, but I really dont like the new layout. I dont mind change, but i find this new layout rather unintuitive. I am sure I will get used to it and then it will be fine, but I would rather see changes that simplify its use and this seems like a step in the wrong direction.
If you make no other changes, I would at least like to see a block similar to the news block for articles. A single unified list on the front page of the 20 most recent articles regardless of category. Features only covers the last three articles and I dont want to look at each category to try to see if there is a recent article in each of them I haven't read yet.
Just my $.02,

Interesting... and I thought the idea of a poll was to elicit feedback from readers... if I thought those views were views of THG, then I might feel sorry for myself. But since you two, and your three friends managed to pull out an astounding 5 votes for the “Love it!!!” option of the poll, I think I should instead feel sorry for you…
I bet you two are those type of employees that bitch and moan about having to deal with customers. Internal, external, it doesn’t matter… what matters is ‘how dare they interrupt your happy time by expecting you to work’.
So let me try to dumb it down for you. You either try to make your product and packaging more attractive to the majority of your readers, or you watch them all as they leave and go read only anandtech or some other site. Of course you might think that would be good, since no one could challenge your highly devolved and inferior intellect. But if the majority of readers did actually leave then so would the advertisers. Smart money would take constructive feedback (especially when given by the majority) and use it to gain a competitive edge. Or you could just whine about people not seeing things your way?

Wow...you're a total fcuk. Everything that's going on in the world and you're worried about a website catered mostly to kids that watch Star Trek in their parents basement and have never kissed a girl?*
You joined DAYS ago, yet you argue about a site with people that joined YEARS ago. Shut the fcuk up already.*
* for you Other regs, my apologies. Just finished No Country For Old Men and a 750ml of Jim Beam and have no patience for this drivel.
*logs off and resumes drinking*
Edit for drunken typos.
