Ok, this is my first build and I am looking for advice on the compatability of my chosen parts. I have someone helping me when it comes to actually building it who is quite the expert.

So here is my system. Any advice ar warning would be great. Thanks.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
ASUS A8N-E NFORCE4 Ultra DDR PCI-E16
OCZ 2GB 2X1GB CL3-3-3-8
EVGA E-GeForce 7900 GT KO
Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.9
Samsung SH-W162 16X DVD+-RW
Antec P180 ATX
OCZ GameXStream 600W ATX12V 24PIN
Samsung SyncMaster 940BW 19IN 1440X900 4MS 500:1
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Logitech MX518 GAMING-GRADE Optical Mouse

Thanks again for the advice and warnings.

P.S. I'm ordering from NCIX.com because I live in Canada.

Nice system, but why Socket 939? If you are going AMD go AM2 so make the following changes:

1) Motherboard to Asus M2N-E.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18885&vpn=M2N-E&manufacture=ASUS

2) CPU to X2 3800+ AM2
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18462&vpn=ADA3800CUBOX&manufacture=AMD

3) RAM to Corsair XMS 2GB CAS 5 DDR2-800.

Whats the difference between 939 and AM2? (Im a newbie) Can I stick with the 4200+ but with AM2 socket?

Why did you switch to the more expensive, higher Cl ram?

go with the intel core 2 duo E6600 The AMD chips are headed downhill and the Intels on the up hill... if you want a cheeper chip go with lower core 2's

Socket AM2 is newer and offers DDR2 memory. You can get the 4200+ for the AM2 socket, I'm not sure why he downgraded it. He upgraded to the DDR2 RAM because technically you need DDR2 800 speed RAM to achieve the same performance as you would with DDR RAM for the 939 socket. It is a good upgrade if you feel like paying for it. If not, I wouldn't worry about it and get this Corsair 2GB 2x1GB DDR2 675

I don't understand why people write stupid shit like this... f*cking fan boys.

GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD. AMD reduced pricing on their processors to bring them in lline with Core2duo for cost vs performance. Yes core2duo is the better upgrade path but for the price that you can now get the x2 3800.... it's a good deal.

Ok lets look at this.. Reducing prices is a sign of desperation. why else would you do it .. they just killed ATI (though i never liked ATI) . They know that Intel is bigger and can win a price war in the long haul. so what does a small chipmaker that is now in debt do to compete with the monster. ... They can't they had there 5 + years of glory is over and now they are finished.

The only thing I would change in your systeme is the Hard Drive. Not because it's a bad one but because you may have some issues with it when it comes to upgrade you chipset drivers. I have the same mobo and same HHD and this motherboard for some reason is not working with this HHD when you upgrade you chipset drivers to the latest version. Asus suggest getting a 7200.10 instead of a 7200.9. I 'd say do what they say or buy a HDD from another manufacturer. BTW, I kept mine but my OS is installed on another HHD from Western Digital.

In my humble opinion the 4200+ is not worth the extra cost for the marginal speed gain over the 3800+. Also my thinking right now is get the lowest dual core chip (or even a single core 3500+) and spend the money when the 65nm AMD chips come out in December. The 65nm chips should look much better against Core2.

However ZipZoomFly is offering the 4000+ (same speed as the 4200+ with double the cache) for $184. That is a good deal there.

A cheeper chip? I kind of prefer quieter parts myself.
Headed downhill? Does that mean they run faster than chips going uphill?

Ok so there was a TYPO .... gravity does not effect the outcome in this case because 1. the chip is locked in and can not move and 2. the Electro-magnetic forces inside ... i just can BS on this topic... as a physicist I am compelled to only state the facts (when relevant to physics) and that i cannot do that given the info i know ..
for what it is worth .. the core 2 Duo uses less power , is faster , and well is the king of the hill so with pricing from $200-$1200 go for it you can' loose.

If cost wasn't really a factor, I'd get the Conroe just because its a newer technology and its better for "future-proofing"

But they have to run harder too though. Its harder to run downhill than run uphill.

Like Waylander said.. FAN BOY.

So what if the Core2 is ahead now? That does not mean AMD chips are all the sudden crap. If you wanted to buy a system today, Core2 is not in sufficent quantities yet for you to buy one. Consdering Dell is quoting ship dates of September 1 for their Core2 based products, this might be a problem for a few weeks.

AMD cut their prices by up to 60%. Sure Intel is a little faster, but its also more expensive. Core2 starts at $250, Intel motherboards are generally around $150, and most of them won't even support quad core CPUs! But i digess.

+1 So much drama. Man I haven’t seen this level of Fan boy FUD since the 9700 Pro, and now look at what that market is today, amazing.

Truth is, every Intel fan boy should be thanking AMD even while they buy the latest Intel Core Mor' On. My hat’s off to you Intel however, reminds me of the days of my 440BX+P2 450MHz, god I loved that system.

Too bad I can get more features (not just CPU but chipset too) for less money, plus I get to support the underdog, woof woof.

That hole you're digging is kinda deep. Would you like a third pair of rose colored glasses?
