ok my rig is at the bottom there......is my 30 buck asrock mobo bottlenecking my whole system or does my computer really suck that much cuz i get like 20 fps on the halo and half life and my computer scores about 2,000 on 3dmark 05 and a normal gaming computer gets like 20,000??????????????????

Your PC obviously has some problem. I suspect its you GPU overclock. I have a Athlon Xp 2000+ with a 6600 that scores better than yours, and I dare say yours should be faster. I'd lower the over clock and rerun 3dmark05, you won't get 20,000 but above 3000 would be a start.

What Half Life 2 settings are you using? Tell us all of them.

Your system should be able to do a little better than that. Try a lower resolution and turn off any HDR, AA, and go to bi-linear or tri-linear filtering.

Your rig prolly shouldn't go above 1024x768, if even that doesn't work try 800x600.

I'd rather play at a low resolution with high FPS than the other way around.

Good luck.

LOOKS LIKE ITS TIME FOR AN UPGRADE, THAT OLD BOARD PROBABLY HAD THE LOWLY 845P/GV INTEL CHIPSET ON IT. NOT A GOOD STARTING POINT FOR A GAMING RIG!!!
YOUR CPU, VID CARD, AND MEMORY NOT TOO SHABBY.
LOOK FOR A CHEAP BOARD PREFERABLY WITH THE INTEL 865PE/P CHIPSET ON IT, THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OUT THERE IN SOCKET 478 FASHON FOR A REASONABLE PRICE.

Hmm I think it COULD be your Mobo.. If the AGP bus on the mobo is 4x instead of 8x then your FPS is getting screwed..

I had a similar problem with my Geforce 6800 AGP 8x\4x but as soon as I upgraded my mobo to a AGP 8x one my FPS on HL2 Shot up like a rocket!!! I used to get 40-50 fps tops (Average 28.4) but now I get 110-120 fps tops (Avg. 84.3). Every other component on my RIG was the same the only change was the mobo and the AGP bus.. And the funny thing is Battlefield 2 started running smooth as silk right after the upgrade.
I run my games at 1024x768, 2X AA, 4X AF, Med-High details.

SPECS:

ECS AGP 8x Mobo
Athlon 64 3200+
BFG Geforce 6800 OC AGP 8x
2x 512 sticks of ram (1 GIG RAM)
Creative X-fi Extreme Music sound card (SWEET 7.1 SS audio)
550W PSU
250 GB Hitachi Hard drive Deskstar (7,200 RPM)
Black case with blue led fans all over the place.. :p

Hahaha. My rig gets more fps in halo than yours does and its going on 7 years old. See sig for specs. I game halo at 1024x768 on high graphics settings. But on all other settings that dont deal with graphics I have to run on low.

Yeah that seems more reasonable... I just checked and I get 2433 in 3D mark05 with an AthlonXp 2000+ 4x AGP 6600 non GT @400/575. I guess I figured there was still a little room in the P4 2.4, maybe not.

What's you 3dMark05 score without any overclock?

What exactly made you think that all caps lots of exclamation marks and underlining everything would not make you look stupid?

I personally get over 100 fps playing cs:s @ 1280x1024 with everything set to high, and I have 4x anisotropic filtering on which is driver locked. Him getting 20 fps in hl2 is extremly odd. There has to be something else wrong. I can guarantee its not a motherboard problem as I have 1 asrock p4 mobo, and ive put one in a clients computer, in replacement of his oem board, both work great and im suprised with all of the settings these cheap 50 $ motherboards have to offer. Btw to everyone thinking 4x agp is going to actually have a great effect on fps is in fact wrong, it doesnt even hinder the framerate.
