I just got a EVGA 7900GT (the newest one) and expecting it to be hot i put on that zalman copper heatpiped gpu cooler with artic silver 5. But when I put it in it reports idle temps lower than my stock venice processor and load I have never seen go above 41. Is this possible?

room temp = 69 degrees F

Well your temps can't be too low, and that Zalman cooler your using is great (I have the same one). My overclocked 6800GS idles at 39-41C and the highest I've seen it is 53C. Congrats on the low temps.

Wow matey! Congrats on your temps! What exactly is it you want? Just OC that bastard until the heat is to your liking...

Presumably, if it's taking ambient at 0 deg. C, wouldn't It be logical to assume, adding his GPU core temp to "real" ambient would give a more realistic reading?

Thats what my question was how accurate are these things. I don't know why its not reading ambient my 6800 does but there is no way im sitting here in a freezing room dear god. The card doesnt physically feel hot or even warm to the touch. 7900 freak?

the 7900gt runs on a smaller process than its older brothers (7800) i think it is 65nm but im not sure. It might be 90nm. But that is why it runs so much cooler. Also you have a nice vga heatsink and fan so that helps alot. AC 5 is also a plus! So be happy about those temps. Most high end video cards run at 60c+

My 7800gt also reads the ambient temperature at 0 degrees C.

If it mean anything to you i have the stock cooler on my 7800gt and its core is factory OCed to 450mhz. I have 9 tabs open in my firefox browser and a bunch of other little things running and my GPU core is at 44 degrees C.

I think you are fine.

BTW my CPU is a AMD 3700 with cool and quiet on and is running at 33 degrees C. My rooms abmient temperature is 26.6 degrees C (or 80 degrees F)

That card is in need of a serious workout . Send it to me, and I will make it sweat. You may or may not get it back... :D :D :D :D

If it is not warm to the touch, then there is no problem. The temp readings of 30-sum degrees are fine. If I am not mistaken (bad day for that for me) that is just near room temp in C.

You have a good card, a good cooler, and great temps. I would wish you good luck, but that has already happened. So enjoy! That card has great potential. Do to it what you feel you must.
