Can anybody tell me the difference between these two processors? Is the FX dual cored and therfore faster? My motherboard will take either and I want to upgrade. My motherboard is a GA K8NS Ultra 939. How can I find the max speed I can go to? Will I have to update the BIOS?

Any information appreciated.

The FX60 and FX62 are dual core
the FX 51,53,55,57 are single core

The FX's are alot faster than regular Athlon64's and also a lot more expensive.

FX have unlocked multipliers, and are faster. Has nothing to do with the number of cores. The FX is meant for extreme high end, and overclocking.

:)

Everytime I read that "...tits on a bull..." line, I cant help but think of that scene from KingPin where Woody Harrelson has just finished milking the bull.

Except the FX's dont overclock that well at all compared to the standard a64's, and the price/performance is terrible in the FX60/62, same with the core2 x6800 which has similar performance to the e6700 in most things and yet costs like twice the price.

I have to agree, I get insane overclocks out of my opteron 165, which is a cheap piece of metal compared to FX series pricing.

If you have a decent cpu now then there may be no point in upgrading. Dont buy any of the FX series they are WAY overpriced unless you like unlocked mulitpliers. Same goes for the core 2 extreme x6800, WAY overpriced for the little difference between it and the much cheaper e6700 and its unlocked multipliers. If you want a decent upgrade look at the athlon X2 range (if your board supports duel core). Theyre pretty cheap now and offer excellent performance for their price point (except the high end ones). If you want to upgrade your whole system then look at the AM2 versions of the X2's or go for the core 2 duo e6300-e6600. You dont need any more power than the e6600 despite how many people tell you that you need a core 2 extreme to be able to play Quake 3 arena at 1000fps. You also nee to specify your budget so we can help you there.
