Got the game about a week ago, and am totally, hopelessly hooked.

Anyway, as an offering to the group; a down payment on what I'll owe for any
future help you pros might be inclined to give me, I had an enchanted item
made that's working pretty well for me. I hate going the long way around
when the place I want to be is right on the other side of that dang mountain
range. Levitate is a great help, but my character is young, and using the
spell drains all my magika...when it works. Potions are ok, unless you run
out of them. I needed to learn about enchanting anyway...

So...I trapped a scamp soul, and scrounged up an expensive amulet. I had
Galbedir (I think she likes me) enchant the amulet with 2-6 pts of levitate
for 8 seconds. This cost me just under 4000 gold.

At that rate, and with my currently low enchanting skill, the spell only
lasts about 4 seconds. But the amulet has a very large charge (100), and
uses very little per spell, so I just keep casting it. There's enough
energy in the amulet for me to take a leisurely air tour across Balamora.
With this, I can use just as much levitate as I need; I don't have to waste
a 30 second potion to get me up the last five feet of mountain, or across
that lava pool I can't quite jump. The disadvantage is that I have to keep
on it, so if I'm in a dangerous place, I don't want to fly too high. If I
have to switch to a weapon to fend off a cliff racer, the landing could be
nasty. And I'm a bit early in the game to have constant-effect slowfall. I
call it...

Fly By Knight.

Cheers,
Walt

A good idea, Walt, and one I wish I'd thought of when I first started
playing. (though being forced to walk through all that wilderness has its
own benefits)

Yeah, I don't "walk" long distances much at all now, but at first it can
be a good thing, helps you increase your skills, I was walking once
though and there was two kagouti along side the path, and naturally they
liked the thought of eating me, so I just started running as fast as my
stats could carry me, straight into Caldera and the guards took care of
them, I was a rather low level at the time and two of them would have
more than likely finished me off, they are no problem these days though,
one hit and they are gone.

I made one with a longer duration, which lasts about 100 seconds, but
maybe 30-45 seconds is sufficient... Save your game when you are
beside your friendly local enchanter, and then play around with
different settings on a ring/amulet. Get it enchanted and try it out.
If it doesn't work out well, just load up the save game and have
another go.

You should try a fortify athletics spell sometime

jumping across the country can provide quick easy (and sometime very
useful) way to reach places with no silt strider or boat access.

I find that levitation can be rather slow sometimes and a couple of
icarian flight scrolls is just the ticket :)
