Got the game about a week ago, and am totally, hopelessly hooked.
Anyway, as an offering to the group; a down payment on what I'll owe for any
future help you pros might be inclined to give me, I had an enchanted item
made that's working pretty well for me. I hate going the long way around
when the place I want to be is right on the other side of that dang mountain
range. Levitate is a great help, but my character is young, and using the
spell drains all my magika...when it works. Potions are ok, unless you run
out of them. I needed to learn about enchanting anyway...
So...I trapped a scamp soul, and scrounged up an expensive amulet. I had
Galbedir (I think she likes me) enchant the amulet with 2-6 pts of levitate
for 8 seconds. This cost me just under 4000 gold.
At that rate, and with my currently low enchanting skill, the spell only
lasts about 4 seconds. But the amulet has a very large charge (100), and
uses very little per spell, so I just keep casting it. There's enough
energy in the amulet for me to take a leisurely air tour across Balamora.
With this, I can use just as much levitate as I need; I don't have to waste
a 30 second potion to get me up the last five feet of mountain, or across
that lava pool I can't quite jump. The disadvantage is that I have to keep
on it, so if I'm in a dangerous place, I don't want to fly too high. If I
have to switch to a weapon to fend off a cliff racer, the landing could be
nasty. And I'm a bit early in the game to have constant-effect slowfall. I
call it...
Fly By Knight.
Cheers,
Walt
