I'm ready to upgrade and would like to order soon. Please take a look at the following configuration and let me know if you would make any changes. I plan to do quite a bit of video conversion from VHS & 8mm to DVD. I plan to reuse the DVD burner, keyboard/mouse from my existing system.

Motherboard and processor
Intel D975XBXLKR Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz OEM Processor -$559.99

Video card
XFX GeForce 6800 Xtreme / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card -$99.99 (after $35 rebate)

Case and power supply
Ultra Black Aluminus ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB, Firewire and Audio Ports And Ultra X2 550-Watt Power Supply -$99.99 (after $30 rebate)

Memory
Ultra 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Memory -$59.99 (after $40 rebate)

Hard drive
Seagate / 320GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive -$109.99

I still need to add a 19" flat panel. Any recommendations.

Thanks,
Eric

HIS Hightech H160XTQT256GDDN Radeon X1600XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 IceQ Turbo
$124.99 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate

I recommend ATI because they have AVIVO and if your going to be video editing and converting you need a powerful cpu and a videocard with the features. ATI definitely has that covered. It is a little more than the 6800xt but you also get a giant cooler on the x1600xt so it's really quite. Also the x1600xt out performs a 6800gt for only 20$ more. Even if you don't game it's still a better choice.

OCZ Gold Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 667
$149.99 after $40.00 Mail-In Rebate

As for the ram... thats a good deal but I would recommend corsair, crucial, or ocz in particular, and get some 2x 1gb kit.

Thermaltake CL-P0220 100mm Blue LED Light Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail
$22.99

Also don't forget about a cooler for your cpu since it is oem. Although it is conroe and they run cool you wont need much. I recommend the thermaltake not because it keeps the temps low but because it keeps the sound level low.... Notice a theme? Quite videocard, quite cpu fan. Check it out yourself...

Also if these suggestions are out of your price range you could always drop the processor to a 6400 and use that money for the ram.

Just my 2 cents. =D
