trying to install drivers for my ati radeon 9550 into windows xp sp2. when i do and restart the computer the display resolution won't change above 640x480 and 4 bit colours. if anyone could shed some light on this problem that would be much appreciated. thanks x
try an older version ... of driver....
i hope you did not forget about .... net framework....just go in the add remove programs ..and check whether you have or not framework installed
if this won`t help you need to reinstall a fresh copy of your OS...install first the mobo drivers and then the video driver (you need agp support)
if this doesn`t help...came back with details....
good luck

No, don't do this. Uninstall all ATI software and drivers from Add/Remove Programs. Then download Catalyst removal tool from ATI web site. Make sure everything related to ATI is thorougly uninstalled.
Reinstall drivers: When prompted to install automatically cancel and install manually (Have Disk). If you are not prompted and drivers are installed automatically go to Device Manager and choose "Update Driver". Then choose "Have Disk" and point to the appropriate files on your CD or the directory into which you extracted downloaded drivers.
Drivers need Ver. 1.1 you can install both .NET versions side by side. Remove drivers from ADD/REMOVE Programs in control panel. Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet then go to the downloads section and download the .NET Framework-install it, then re-install your drivers and all should be well. BTW you can use WindowsUpdate to get the .NET framework as well.
Also in addition to what Slava said, make sure your MoBo BIOS and Chipset drivers are updated. The drivers are optimized for the latest version of your MoBo software. I have a similar problem with the R9600 series and fastwrites. Initially I just disabled fastwrites, but then checked on the issue and found that this wasa common problem for people with VIA mobo chipsets who hadn't recently updated their BIOS (I had kept the VIA 4n1 drivers up to date, but didn't think about the BIOS after updating at build time).
Updated the BIOS and voila, problem solved and could return to using Fastwrites, not that it made a difference (and left it disabled anyways, to avoid future problems).
i have the same problem but i use nvidia 8800 gtx video card. it happened after i disabled fastwrites using rivatuner.
edit:
i reinstalled drivers and it works now.
