Hi,

At the moment Ive got this:

MOBO: Asus K8V-X SKT754
CPU: Althon 3000+ 64bit
RAM: 1GB Crucial DDR 400
GFX: AGP 6600 256MB (not GT!)
HDD: Seagate SATA 80GB

Problem is, its beginning to lag on games or just in general and I reckon it needs a performance boost. What do you think? I was considering getting a 775 mainboard and dropping in a Pentium D 805 badboy and squeezing as much as possible out of it - is this really worthwhile considering my current system?

Dont know if anyone could give me an idea ,but how much do you think I could sell my MOBO, CPU and GFX for?

Any help welcome

I'll give you $100 for your crap.

You should wait for Core 2 Duo to really hit the market full-swing before you buy anything because CPU prices are gonna fall! BOOM.

If not, you're dumb!

What's with all this condescending crap you keep posting, Cheese?
Go blow your steamy teenage angst elsewhere.

pbotnik,

Consider this build:

[ CPU ]
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0GHz)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103735
($159.00)

[ Motherboard ]
ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022
($96.99)

[ Memory ]
Corsair XMS2 1GB (2 x 512) DDR2-800 (PC6400), 5-5-5-15
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145566
($104.00)

[ Video Card ]
Sapphire Radeon X1800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102007
($234.99)

That right there is $594.98.
You could save a few bucks by going with the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (2.4GHz) for $119. Link.
That would bring the total down to $554.98. If you can manage a $1,000 budget you could always squeeze in 2GB of RAM.
Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800 (PC6400), 4-4-4-12
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145038
($297.00)

As for a power supply (assuming you have something below 450 - 500W), here's an Antec TruePower 2.0 550W. Link. ($79.99)

If you need a hard-drive, here's a great option: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA-II 320GB. Link. ($94.99) <-- though it says "One Day Sale"

If you can salvage your case, the optical drives, keyboard, mouse, a Windows license, and a monitor ... you'll be able to get some great hardware even with a relatively tight budget.

Good luck.

Don't get the EPP memory... get the regular 2 gig (2*1gig) Corsair DDR2 800MHZ... should only be about 200, less if you can find rebate. If your not in a hurry to buy, I say wait around for good HDD deals. Those pop up about every month or so. I saw a 500 gig SATA HDD go for 80 bucks... but more often are 320 gigs for like 70 or so. That is, if your not in a hurry. I already have 7 HDD's, but I always need more so I always try to keep up with the good deals. Shrug.
