Hi, I have a 4355 iPaq which has built in bluetooth and WiFi. I want to use
it for SKYPE (the free internet telephone)...the idea is to link in thru
WiFi and use Skype to go out to others.... But the problem is that when I
use it, the sound quality thru the little microphone seems terrible. That
is strange because the sound is fine when I use the iPAQ as a voice
recorder.
SOOOOO, what I want to try is to buy a Bluetooth headset (earpiece plus
microphone) and connect in thru Bluetooth, presumably getting me better
sound quality. But, while my iPAQ has bluetooth, nobody seems to know (so
far) how to hook it in. And if it will get decent sound quality that way.
Any suggestions? Comments?
By the way, Skype works great on my desktop with its cheap speakers and
cheaper microphone. And it DOES work on the iPAQ, but I can hear fine but
my voice gets garbled going out.

I use Skype on my iPAQ 5555 wirelessly to my home LAN, the public internet, then to my brothers home
LAN and his XP Pro desktop. The audio at each end is very good. Of course this is with a broadband
ISP at each end.

I forgot to add that we both use plain vanilla plug-in headphones at each end...

Bluetooth headsets will not work with your h4355.
The best option is just a standard corded headset - the sound is really good
when using that.

That is the key using Skype with a Pocket PC...use a headset. The built in
mic is just fine, the system just seems to have a heck of a time with the
feedback generated by using the built in speaker and mic. Use a headset and
you'll be pleased.

Thanks, BUT, I have been using earbuds, i.e., external earphones, and the
sound was awful. My built-in mic works great when I am doing voice
recording on the iPaq. I am very disappointed that the iPaq has bluetooth
but won't support a microphone/headset. kinda dumb and shortsighted.
Oh and, YES, I have broadband or T1 where i wanted to do all this.
will try a bona fide headset. maybe it doesnt like ear buds.

Don't feel bad, I have an Ipaq 5550 and it does support the Bluetooth headset, but when I tried to use skype with a Bluetooth headset through my pocketpc I found that it wasn't able to keep up when the wifi and Bluetooth were working at the same time. Haven't tried it in awhile though, maybe the software has improved.

That's odd, it works just fine on my 4155, which is essentially the same
machine sans the keyboard. For clarification, is it the other party that
complains about your voice, what they hear? or is what you hear garbled.

Actually the 5555 does support a bluetooth headset, I use my jabra 250 with
it from time to time and no registry hack was needed to pair the two. The
problem is that the bluetooth radio will knock the wifi radio off when the
bluetooth radio searches for other bluetooth devices. After the connection
with my headset is established wifi and bluetooth works fine. Still it's a
pain to establish the bluetooth connetion first cause you may not know when
you're going to get an incoming call.

I have the Ipaq 4350 with the Jabra 250 and while the two will pair, the
Ipaq is unable to establish a connection because of a reported lack of
services being offered by the headset. Don't know if anyone else is
having the same problems. If so and you've worked around them, I'd be
interested in how you did it.

Is there a registry hack to get the Ipaq to pair with the Jabra 250? Is
so, could you pass it on?

As I noted earlier I use a plain vanilla plug-in headset... I don't do BT at all...yet...:-)

The only ipaq that will pair with the jabra 250 is the 5550/5 and you don't
need any reg hack to do it. You do need the latest rom though, then you
goto the bluetooth manager and tell it to add a headset. Once you follow
the onscreen guides you should be up and running. The 4150 and 4350 ipaqs
can't use a headset(even with the reg hack). I've tried and it doesn't
work. Here is the registry change needed in some other widcomm/broadcom
stack ipaqs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\Services\0005\Enabled
from 0 to 1.

The 2215 will do so as well, after a similar registry change. As has been
noted, the 41 and 43 series do not have the required bits, so even making
the reg change doesn't allow BT headsets to work.

The HP h6315/h6365 (Pocket PC Phone Edition, GPRS,BT,Wi-Fi) and the hx4700
(Wi-Fi,BT,VGA) will pair and connect to a BT headset.
The h6315 will work for phone calls and System Sounds, while the hx4700 will
work with System Sounds, including WM Player, etc.
