This will depend on what application you are clustering. Each vendor has their own recommendations for how to install their s/w on cluster (if they recommend it at all). It's possible to have an
app that is installed locally on each node and there is a generic application resource on the cluster that will simply start that app up on the node, or you can have the application files on the
shared disk and the generic app resource can be pointed there to start the app up. No matter what though, any data that your users are saving that would then not be considered "static" needs
to be saved to the shared cluster disk so it can be accessed from eithe node.
