Im trying to decide what chip to go for. I want the X2 5000+ because of the faster 2.6mhz clockspeed. but the 4800+ has double the L2 Cache.

before I get flamed for not saying what I will use the chip for here it is.

Casual Gaming

Not crazy graphics, I just want a decent framerate to play some of the new shooters.

Amateur Video and Picture editing

Basic surf videos and jackass crap with the friends and Adobe photoshop

DVD shrink

ummm I only back up my own DVDs...

Lots of music ripping and playing

...same goes for music

If anyone has some insight on what chip I should go with I would appreciate it

Splendid
If AMD is your man, you're better off w/ the 4800+ in your situation. The larger cache is very adventageous in encoding and gaming.

Either way you're only looking at a 5-8% difference in performance with those chips in any application.

Try looking at the CPU charts. There u can compare benches from the 4800 and 5000

First of all I would like to thank both of you for your responses. I Think I will go with the faster chip (its the cheaper of the 2) I could easily OC it on air a good 10 or 15% and for small differences in preformance i would like a chip that will last a bit longer.

Also
I have an AM2 mobo that was given to me as a present so I was going to go with AMD, I have mostly been an AMD guy and my dad has been an Intel guy.
