Brother HL 1160 prints top 2" only

I would appreciate any insights in troubleshooting a 9 year old Brother HL
1660 Laserprinter I inherited.

It will print only the top 2" of pages sent through internal test prints and
through windows XP (print test and any application).

Thinking it was memory related I swapped out, each in turn, the two memory
SIMM's (32Mb slot 1, 4Mb slot 2).

Slot 1 Slot 2 Error
32Mb 4Mb print 2" only
32Mb none print 2" only
4Mb none print 2" only
4Mb 32Mb Simm installation error slot 2 (on printer boot).

The only thing I haven't tried is new memory SIMM's.

Is there any way to verify the parity or bit size of the memory chips from
the markings on the SIMM's?

I also tried lowering the page resolution from 600 to 300dpi through the
menu to no avail (same top 2" only).
