Mobo: Don't know so much about moboes, so I tought that you could give me some advice/toughts on wich one to get :p (doesn't have to be a Sli one)

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ $154.50

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $218.00

GPU: MSI Geforce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card $269.99

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s x2= $180

DVD Burner: SAMSUNG Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL $39.99

Power: Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 $69.99

Case: Cooler Master Ammo $79.99

This summs upp in about $930+a moboe for tops $120 => $1050

I'm not an overclocker, but I might try to give the rig a bit of boost when it starts to slow down.

Do you se any bottlenecks or any components that don't make a god match?

I have a monitor, mouse etc. so they are already covered. The rig is going to be mostly used on gaming, not so fussy on graphics (don't have to be the best of the best) but I would like to have some eye candy with todays and tomorrows games, until games go over to dx10 of course. Want to have a rig that goes on without having to uppgrade it every year :p

Do you think that it would be possible to use this for 3-4 years and play FPS games with a deasent framerate. Then build a new Vista/dx10 rig, this because i think that these 2 new things must have time and a couple of generations on them before they start to live up to their full potential.

Any advice/toughts will be helpfull :)

Thx

Well, okay I have some suggestions. This rig is mostly for games, then you shouldn't bother with dual core right now. Save $40 and go for the single core AM2 3800+.

You're going to upgrade for Vista/DX10, but they are just around the corner. So if you expect this system to last 4 years, then 3 of those years you'll be on this system while Vista/DX10 are out and about. You'll be missing out.

Instead I would build a rig that will last for 1.5-2 years. That allows some time for the new technology to get the bugs out. Then do your upgrade. In the meantime save some cash on your current build by going with cheaper graphics, cheaper RAM (maybe only 1 GB.. depends on what you want to play), and how about an Antec case w/power supply.

You could probably save $280. That's money you can spend on your future DX10 system.

Oh I can't knock you on the 2 320GB HDDs.. that's just a damn good deal and they'll carry over to your DX10 build. Also, these are only suggestions since you didn't state your needs. I'm only making these suggestions to save you some money and with the idea that you only need a system to hold you over until DX10 becomes viable.

If this is a DirectX10/Vista build, I would make the following changes:

Motherbard you were not sure of.. Asus M2N-E works fine. $96
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022

CPU: Athlon64 3500+ - pick up a dual core CPU in December when 65nm CPUs come out.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103633

CAS 5 does not work well with AM2. Here you need to spend more money. Sorry :(.
2GB- $255
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034

Video Card- 7900GT is fine, but you can get away easily with a 7600GT and upgrade to a DX10 card.

Thanks for your quick replies :p

if your building a new rig why not use one of the new intel duo ?
Because I'll get an AMD cheaper than an core and to me the difference wont make up the $100, I'll perhaps upgrade to an quad core when they get out and start living up to their potential :p

Just what I was thinking on, but couldn't say it right :p Language barrier

@ shadowduck What you said makes sense, mabye a quad core is a bit much :p and I forse big price drops yet again in december  Have to look up the memory thing, $50 bucks isn't a lot if the performance increases significantly :p

Thx

If this is going to be a gaming rig, go with a Core 2 Duo build.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

Video Card: eVGA Geforce 7600GT <--- If you're going to be upgrading to a DX10 card when they arrive, get this now so you don't spend $269 on a video card you'll be using for 6-8 months.

Hard Drive, DVD Burner, Power Supply and Case: Same as you listed in your original plan.

Total: $1113.92

All you should really need to upgrade for the next few years for gaming would be the video card, which you were planning to do anyway with DX 10.

He does not want to use Intel, he has already stated that.
