Hi,

I ran BPS Sypware.Adware Remover program and it detected
c:\Windows\System32\BMUpdate.exe file as a "Bookmark Express" spy file. I
believe this file does not belong to a Win2k3 server package. The question I
have is to what software this file belongs to and if it is safe to just
remove it?

Thanks.

Hi Mazi,

See the following link:

http://www.spyany.com/program/article_adw_rm_BookmarkExpress.html

This is not a file that ships with WIndows 2003 and I would say, Yes it is
safe to remove it.

Thanks for your quick response to my question. About a couple weeks ago, I
posted here asking for some utilities (software package manager program).
What I tried to achieve was using such a utility to determine which software
package the BMUpdate.exe belongs to. IIRC, I had installed some software and
this BMUpdate.exe came to its existence; however, I don't recall which
software did this BMUpdate.exe came with. I was hoping anyone out here can
help me to determine which software does this BMUpdate.exe belongs to.

Mazi,

BMupdate.exe a program that used to be bundled with scanner drivers from
EchBahn.com that would allow you (and marketing partners) to manage your
bookmarks from anywhere, and pops up ads at you. The service itself has
since been discontinued, and it is recommended to delete this file. So in
essence, any marketing freeware/shareware application could have installed
it.

Mike,

Thanks for the info and I appreciated that. The file has been deleted and my
computer rebooted without any problem.
