This unit seems to fall somewhere between a Pocket PC and a wireless
monitor.

Would this provide some of the features of a Pocket PC while having a larger
more readable screen?

Would it be possible to upload a pocket PC version of a desktop program,
like Pocket Streets or Fugawi (GPS/Mapping software) to this unit?

Seems like a good price.

As I understand them, this will not operate as a standalone unit. It is a
remote input/ display for an XP computer via wireless network.

perhaps I was fooled by the wireless and the usb ports and other
features... sure seems like it COULD be made into one...... just a little
software....

I am looking for something between a tablet and a pocket pc size wise....

sort of a jacket pocket computer....

Steve,

That's a very useful link!

These units were being discussed on a boating forum - Idea was to have
laptop computer below decks at (safe) navigation station running GPS
navigation software - This unit would connect wirelessly and display boats
location on chart on deck at steering location. There would be a need for
visibility in sunlight (like a PDA) and good resolution (like the laptop
screen).

Could also be used in car for navigation - laptop on fllor or in back seat -
display on dash.

Would these sound like a reasonable applications?

I think they are still missing the boat.... a firmware change and it would
easily be a giant PDA! ( and I would buy it!)

I agree Ed,

They seem to think that everyone wants a tiny PDA that only young eyes can
see :(

They of course have tablets, but they are very expensive.

What I want, is a PDA with a 6-8" touch screen, two slots - maybe one CF and
one PCMCIA, maybe built in Bluetooth or wifi . Price about US$600.

Yes indeed! my eyes are not what they were when I was 20! I tink he specs

The misinformation appears to be in their published OS description as
"PocketPC 3..." which should have been listed as "WindowsCE 3..."

It _is_ based on WindowsCE 3.x but has none of the pocketpc aspects that
are incorporated into WinCE to specifically give the pocketpc format and
interface functionality.
