for $450 you can get a PNY 7900gt PCIe card with a 3 year no questions asked replacement warrenty.
On New Egg, you can get it for $250.
The deal is, in 2 years when this graphics card is old and DX10 cards are out, I can "exchange" my Compusa card for a new card of equal value(calcualted at the time of purchase). So is $150 bucks as a future investment worth it?

It can be worth it, but I beleive there would have to be something wrong with the card to take advantage of the exchange (like rub the card with a wool sweater standing on a rug!)
heh
$450 in three years would pay for a card that would OWN the card you are buying now...
I'd say no. Most cards have at least a 3 year warranty. XFX & BFG cards have lifetime warranties. I think eVGA does too.
A $150 price difference is a hefty price to pay if your card never dies. And if it does die, it takes maybe 30 minutes of work to get it replaced through the manufacturer.
But that wasnt the point. The point was it will fail "wink wink" and Compusa will replace the card with an equal card in stock. Because in 2 years that card will not be availble, they will replace it with a different $450 priced card, or what ever is the crown at that time.
I worked for CompUSA and not only are they that stupid, they actually promote their warrantly using that exact strategy (well at least where I worked). All the sales guys would try to use that as a reason to get customers to buy the extended warranty.
It's like the whole mail-in rebate thing. CompUSA knows that people are going to forget to bring in their "broken" card after 3 years. So if you can remember to actually take it back when it "breaks" in 3 years then yes, you'll get a brand new one without a hassle.
And yes it works. You just have to bring your card to the store, say it's broken, prove that you have the warranty and you get either the exact same card, or something of equal value (the original value of the card). They don't even test the cards (at my store at least, other stores might).
So in effect if you keep buying the replacement plans you can get a top end graphics card every couple of years for like $100 a pop.
Actualy, the Compusa guy did promote that stragity to me in the beginning. When I got my current graphics card I didnt have the $50 to get the extended warenty and I feel dumb now cause I could be gamming with a x1900xt or something.
I.... think I will do it! Ya baby Ya. that way I dont ahve to worry about getting a stupid dx10card later on.... alls I want to do is play Oblivion and with a 6800gt, I cant.
