-Is going with a am2 socket mobo a good choice?
-So far these parts fit my budget and i will be upgrading in the future, is the mobo a good choice to build around for future upgrades?
-I'm also thinking about overclocking, is this a good setup for it?

I do not APPROVE... sorry : )!

-X2 3800 is a great choice and is sooooo cheap right now! You can definalty overclock that too... thats a good choice!

-6800 XT is not a good deal for 131... its going to be slow compared to other options... your better off with a 7600GT for 140-160 or if you want to pay 250-260 a 7900GT is really the best value for the money. Some ppl might argue with me on this, but try to stay away from the 6 series cards and go for the 7 series. Go with a 7600GT or 7900GT you WONT regret it.

-Your motherboard is not going to support TRUE 32X SLI, you need to go for the Nforce 590 series to get that functionality and is worth it when you plan to go SLI.

-The Nforce series of motherboards has pretty damn good onboard sound, I would suggest saving your money for something else.

-Your setup is going to kick ass, and you have a good setup going there, I just suggest you maybe reconsider your videocard and MB. I also suggest that you be careful about buying a cheap case... they can be a real pain in the ass sometimes... check the reviews on the case b4 buying ppl will let you know if it sucks.

-Another suggestion... when you buy DDR800... and its within your budget... get cas 4... it costs around 100 bucks for a 1 gig of it... but its worth buying!

Goodluck with your build and I hope everything comes together for you!

Suggested Changes:

Mobo: DO NOT go down the SLI route unless you're going to be doing ALL 3 of the following:

1. Gaming at resolutions over 1600 x 1200
2. Going to be getting 2 Geforce 7900GT's or higher
3. Going to be getting those 7900GT's or higher within 2 months of each other.

If you said no to AT LEAST 1 of these, do not get an SLI board. Switch to the M2N-E instead.

RAM: Forget about that 1GB stick altogether. The timings are really crappy. For an AMD build, you want the lowest possible timings on your ram and you DEFINITLY want CAS 4. If 1GB is all you're after for ram, get this set of XMS2 with 4-4-4-12 timings. If it's 2GB you're after, go for this set of XMS2, also with 4-4-4-12 timings.

Sound Card: The onboard sound will do fine unless you really care about good quality sound. If you do care about quality, get a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic.

The suggestions helped a lot, i switched my mobo to a Asus M2N-E, replaced the 6800xt to a 7600GT, switched the RAM and i realized a 80GB HD is good enough. For the video card do i really need a 7600GT? I mostly play CS, CS Source, COD, Battlefield

I just went from a 6800GT to a 7900GT and I can tell you its worth every penny once you see DOD and CSS running balls to the wall with HDR on full.

Also, I've noticed on my A64 and XP systems seem to studder step anytime the physics really come into play, like a grenade going off in a pile of bodies and rubble in DoD. But on my P4 system that never happens. My A64 even has 2gigs whereas the P4 only has 1gig.

You may wanna consider a PD system since they're dirt cheap right now. It really has given me the better gaming experience thusfar.

I would get better ram, cor$air is over rated and expensive. Check out patriot or OCZ for lower pice and better performance. I think you can get acheaper 7600 card or atleast a used x800gto2 for like 90

Good advice.

If all you care about is playing the games that are out now, this is a stellar deal:

Performance will be on par with the 7600gt, but the technology is older so expect the 7600 to pull ahead in future games. You can save some money for your next graphics card purchase, which will be dx10. However, if money is not a concern, the 7600gt is the right choice.

2 problems with what you're said here:

1. OCZ DDR2 doesn't work on Asus AM2 boards. Your point is well taken about Corsair being expensive though.
2. NEVER buy a used product just to save money. It was probably returned for a good reason.

I was just giving an example about the ram. On the open box cards... I m a happy owner of a x800gt saphire for $80 that OCs like mad, it even came in original box with all the goodies. Those open box got some good deals, I saw a 7900gt for $200.

OK alternatives...
Get a motherboard that has built in graphics.
On dual cores, I had a 3800+ single which was great. I was able to play everything on high and fast but as soon as I started to encode video and play games at same time, it choked so hard! This is what multitasking all about :). I gota x2 3800+, OCed it to 2.2Ghz and can now do both things at same time. CPU performance is at 50% during multitasking compared to 100% on a single.
