I have 1700$ (MAX) for a Core 2 Duo Build - I'm going to use it like this:

play games(oblivion, fear, BF2) 50%
Program (C, VB, Java, Flash) 20%
Surf(20%)
Music(10%)

I want these parts, but not for sure yet:

1. Conroe E6600 2.4Ghz
2. Saphire X1800 XT 256MB (625/1500)
3. Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 ATX Intel Motherboard (not for sure yet)
4. Seagate Barracuda 250 GB Hard Drive Sata2 with NCQ/Perpendicular Rec.
5. 19" Viewsonic VX922 (2 ms RT)
6. 2 GB RAM Corsair XMS DDR2 800 (not sure if 5 or 4 latency)
7. Either P180, NZXT Apollo, or Cooler Master Cavalier Case
(heard PSU probs wit the P180???)
8. Antec TruePower II 550W PSU

Do I need a Sound Card, or is the mobo sound good enough? (planning on lstening to music with Logitech THX Z-5300e 280 Watts RMS 5.1 Speakers.

Please Critique with all your heart :)

THanks XD

Dude dont spend that much on a gfx card now. Get a cheap one like me(7600GT) and upgrade in a year to dx10 cards. I think integrated sound is good. I got the G Skill 2 GB kit, CAS 4 for 177 bucks from newegg and it looks tight.

The ram is probably Cas5 unless it says C4 at the end of it which will put it at Cas4 and about 100 some odd bucks more...

I think integrated sound is good enough... but it takes a load on your processor. A X-Fi card can be bought for around $80 (mid-range one, although I've seen a fatality go for 120, honest). But your choice on that if you're on a budget.

Unless you have the cpu and mobo in hand thislist is moot. It will be atleast a week or two before you can get your hands on an E6600 (again unless you allready have it). At which time the new Nforce 590 boards should be out.

I was thinking about that, but I'm going to stick with a high end DX9 and switch in roughly one year's time, aroud 3rd-4th quarter of 07...

I'm going with cas5 for my build, the conroes don't benefit from the tighter timings as much as the am2's do. If you see any increase at all it will be very little, so its not worth the extra $100.
