Intel should shut down a plant or two and start converting them to produce Conroe and Meron CPUs. Of course that would mean Intel may be incurring capital expenditures sooner than expected, but it would be better than producing more CPUs that may simply be added to the stockpile.

BM are you just too stupid to read a chart? the total stockpile is 2billion $ not all of which is intel's, even if it was that reperesnts a mear 5% of annual sales (39 billion $) and therefore arround 18 days of sales. of course if that was your beloved AMD (LTM sales 5.8 billion $) they would be up sh1t creak without a paddle but there not so just STFU.

What I read (and misunderstood, admittedly) was the following quote from the article: "Semiconductor suppliers as a group were holding approximately eight days of excess stock in the second quarter, up from 6.8 days in the first quarter, a large portion of which was composed of microprocessors and chipsets." Please excuse my lack of attention to detail, as it plainly says in the quote that suppliers as a group were holding 8 days of inventory. Now that it has been pointed out that Intel is holding 18 days of inventory, I do believe that we can expect free Pentium D giveaways at 49ers preseason games this year (at least, that's what I heard at bmisabigmeanie.com)
