Your question

I need a video card under $300

I was originally thinking in this eVGA 7900GT KO. It came with the new HSF (bigger and quieter), it CAME WITH Hitman:Blood Money and it was RoHs Compliant.

It was supposed to be a newer and better version of their other 7900GTs, they fixed a bunch of things that caused artifacts in some cards.

Anyways, Newegg had it for some time but I don't see it listed anymore... So I'm in a bit of trouble since I'm thinking on building a new PC soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------

My question is:

What's the best video card I can get for under $300, is somewhat quiet and has the most chances of not having artifacts (I'm going to have it internationally shipped to me so sending it back for RMA would be a pain in the ass) I can get?

Thanks a lot guys.

1800XT is the alternative choice.

7900GT KO is under $300  ...... quite a nice card.

Your alternative being obviously the X1800XT, or if you dont mind a rebate, the MSI X1900XT.

either u wait until DX10, or rebate an x1900xt.. it'll blow almost anything out of the water...in my opinion it beats the $400+ 7900gtx and u could consider it to be below $300

i would get 1800xt and wait for dx10

8O he said that he was looking at the 7900GT KO, and it had disappeared from newegg.

Anyhow, if you're willing to spend almost $300, you can get the MSI X1900XT. If you don't want to spend that much, then you can get this Sapphire 256MB X1800XT for $230 AR. If you're a modder/overclocker, then you should get this Sapphire X1800GTO2 512MB for $210. It's a BIOS-locked 512MB X1800XT, so you can flash it and have a cut-price 512MB XT.

did u manage to sell your 7800gs?
August 5, 2006 5:25:33 AM

No, the only way I could sell it was to have the buyer send me the cash up front....I couldnt think of any more reasonable way to do it. It's hard to ask someone to simply let go of their money on "trust" to some forum guy.

Until I can think of something better, or sell it at one of the lan's I attend, I suppose I'll just hold on to it. The performance of it is great, and I really dont need anything better right now.

Paypal, I dont see why somebody would hesitate. I doubt you've been a forum member this long to rip somebody off for less than $200

@ Fish

I realize he was looking @ the KO edition, I was simply hammering the point that its a fine card not to be overlooked, so if indeed that what his heart was set on, to keep looking.

Woah! thanks a bunch for pointing out that X1900XT! I didn't even dare to look at them thinking they'd be uber expensive lol. I can actually afford that MSI... is it worth it? over the X1800XT or another brands 7900GTs?

Thanks a lot for the replies guys ^^

Actually, my 7900GT just came back to Newegg 8O I don't know why they weren't listing it anymore.

Now the question is, should I buy that 7900GT I originally planned? or step up to the MSI X1900XT? I've never used GFX cards that take 2 slots =/ are they better? do they have any problems ?

The first revision of the G80 (90 nm architecture) could be released as early as september. DX10 cards really aren't as far off as you think, although you won't be able to take advantage of DX10 until the vista release. These cards will be quite a bit more powerful than current DX9 cards.

Its simply a design feature. Your single slot coolers exhaust air from the GPU into the case...a dual slot design simply exhuasts the air outside of the case.

Well, in that case... is the X1900XT worth the extra $$ over the 7900GT?

Yes, it is. BTW, the price just went down by $5 to $290. It's a small amount, but that $5 is better in your pocket than in newegg's.

Maybe it would sell if you mentioned that it's guaranteed to overclock to 500/1500MHz core/mem  .
