i tried installing a new seagate 400gb hdd

it's an sata 16mb cache. and for some reason, we couldn't ghost the drive over, from a 300gb ultra ata 100. why did it crash?

Well since you didn't give any details this is what I would look at:

Check to make sure the BIOS detects it...
Check to make sure the jumper on the hard drive itself is put at master or slave...

WickedDevils, Its detected because he was able to try to ghost it. Besides didnt I just ask him to gimme more info????
